What takes place

Participants are connected with mentors who offer encouragement, guidance, and a steady point of support.

Together, they talk through interests, strengths, and challenges, set personal and educational goals, and check in on progress along the way.

How we provide it

The program is delivered online first, so participants can take part from wherever they are. As our organizational capacity and community partnerships grow, we plan to add community-based opportunities in New York.

Mentors are prepared before working with participants, and mentoring takes place within safe, supportive guidelines.

How it connects to the rest of the program

Mentorship is the thread that runs through the whole program. The confidence and goal-setting habits participants build with their mentors carry into leadership activities and STEM learning.

Mentors help participants reflect on what they are learning, stay motivated, and connect each experience to their personal, educational, and career goals.

Skills participants can develop

  • Confidence and self-awareness
  • Goal setting
  • Responsible decision-making
  • Future planning
  • Communication
